Recipe For Success – Making Pimms

Nothing beats a glass of Pimms on a Summer’s day. The British beverage is almost as much a tradition as the cup of tea, and British down the gin-based drink by the gallon during the summer months.

Rewind back to a London Oyster bar in the 1840’s where owner James Pimm invented the thirst-quencher. Using Gin, quinine and a secret mixture of herbs, good old Pimms served up a brew as an aid to digestion, dishing it out in small tankard and the No 1 Cup moniker was born.

Traditional Pimms

Take one slice, or chopped wedges, of orange, lemon, apple, cucumber per person and one sprig of mint and add two parts lemonade to one part Pimms…and plenty of ice cubes! Serve in tall glasses or even pretty bone china cups!

You can make it stronger but do not dilute the Pimms more than one part Pimms to two parts traditional [or cloudy?] lemonade.

For Garden Party or Wedding Pimms you could add strawberries, making the Pimms with one part Pimms, one part lemonade and one part ginger Beer [or Ginger Ale]
